Breast Screening Guidelines
Our breast imaging radiologists, the American College of Radiology and other professional medical associations all agree with the latest guidelines to start annual mammograms at age 40.
- All women, especially African American women, should be evaluated for breast cancer risk no later than age 30, so that those at higher risk can be identified and benefit from supplemental screening.
- The revised guidelines for African American women point to an increased risk of being diagnosed with aggressive “triple-negative” breast tumors.
- In addition to screening mammography, Abbreviated Breast MRI (AB-MRI) is a valuable screening tool for all women who have dense breasts and an average risk of breast cancer.
