Orthopedic & Sports Imaging

When you need an accurate, definitive clinical diagnosis that pinpoints the exact degree and extent of any injury or musculoskeletal (MSK) disorder, Wake Radiology excels. Our six subspecialty-trained MSK radiologists give patients the benefit of more than 80 years of combined experience. Trained at the finest universities and teaching hospitals, our doctors have raised the bar for orthopedic imaging in the Triangle area and beyond. From our experience in imaging local professional hockey players, track stars, dancers, triathletes, football players and other athletes, we have the expertise to handle the breaks and sprains of everyday life. We utilize the most advanced CT, ultrasound, MRI, nuclear medicine and bone densitometry (DXA) technologies available, and offer MSK services at eight locations throughout Raleigh, Cary, Garner, Wake Forest, and Chapel Hill. Our West Raleigh Musculoskeletal and Sports Imaging Services office is staffed daily by two subspecialty-trained radiologists, and all cases are routed to this location for immediate interpretation. All Wake Radiology bone densitometry exams are read by radiologists certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD). iscd.jpgWake Radiology is proud to be the only provider in the Triangle – and one of the first in the nation – to be certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) for bone density studies. This significant accomplishment is the highest certification offered by the ISCD.

MSK Exams and Services

At Wake Radiology, we offer comprehensive sports medicine imaging, procedures, and pain management for all of your aches and pains including: 

Diagnostic Imaging:

  • Conventional radiography, CT and MRI, and nuclear medicine of all joints
  • Bone densitometry
  • Peripheral ultrasound with special attention to the shoulder

Procedures and Pain Management:

  • Conventional, CT and MR arthrography of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle joints 
  • Fluoroscopically-guided pain management:
    • All peripheral joints including the small bones of the feet
    • Lumbar spine facet joints
    • Sacrum/coccyx
    • Traditional and caudal epidural injections (through the sacral hiatus) for relief of low back, sacral, coccygeal and sciatic pain 
    • Shoulder brisement for adhesive capsulitis
  • CT-guided injection of the sacroiliac joints
  • Bursal and tendon sheath injections
  • Joint aspirations
  • Ultrasound-guided cyst aspirations and barbotage (removal of bursal and tendon calcium deposits)

Lyndon K. Jordan III, MD
