Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update

Keeping Our Patients Safe

Your health and safety are our top priorities.

That’s why we continue to carefully monitor the status of COVID-19 in our community. We’re regularly assessing and following the latest recommendations from UNC Health, the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American College of Radiology.

We’re Prepared

Every day, we work diligently to maintain clean, safe imaging offices for both our patients and staff. We routinely care for sick patients and those with fragile immune systems. Our team is accustomed to working in an environment hyper aware of professional hygiene and disease prevention. That’s remained true as we’ve provided essential imaging to patients and providers during this pandemic.

  • Our safety protocols are in place to protect our patients and staff. This includes our standard deep disinfecting and sanitizing processes as well as additional safety protocols at all of our offices.
  • As North Carolina moves through phases that ease Stay At Home Order restrictions, we expect to see more patients in our offices. We have modified appointment times for all imaging services, including screening mammograms, to allow for improved patient safety, social distancing and additional cleaning time.

Our Safety Measures

  • All patients must wear a mask to their appointment. Our team is required to wear them too.
  • Patients should preregister for all imaging appointments. You can use the email from our scheduling team or our online Patient Portal. Preregistering reduces time spent in our waiting areas.
  • We will pre-screen all patients for COVID-19 symptoms and risk factors before they enter our offices.
  • Our waiting areas have been re-arranged to encourage physical distancing.
  • We sanitize all registration iPads and imaging equipment between each patient. We are disinfecting common surfaces like door handles and bathrooms throughout the day and deep cleaning our offices every night. All of our cloth gowns and linens are professionally cleaned off-site.
  • We are scheduling more time between appointments to reduce the number of patients in our offices at one time. All visitors must wait for patients outside the building or in their vehicle.

Evaluate Your Risk

As Stay at Home Order restrictions are eased, we remind all patients not to come to their appointment if they don’t feel well.

If you are scheduled for an exam and are experiencing fever of 100 degrees or higher, any coughing or shortness of breath or develop any of these symptoms prior to your appointment, please call our Scheduling Team at 919-232-4700 to reschedule your exam.

WakeRad UNC REX is grateful for the trust our patients and referring providers have placed in us for more than 66 years. We remain committed to providing safe, clean and quality medical imaging to patients throughout the greater Triangle area.

— COVID-19 Update: March 24, 2020

Your health is always our primary concern.

That’s why WakeRad UNC REX is carefully monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community. We’re regularly assessing the latest information from UNC Health, the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Every day, we work diligently to maintain clean, safe imaging offices for both our patients and our staff. We routinely care for sick patients and those with fragile immune systems. Our team is accustomed to working in an environment hyper aware of professional hygiene and disease prevention. Here are a few things we will continue to do and are stepping up due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Pre-Registration Questions

All patients are asked health and travel screening questions when pre-registering for their appointment with WakeRad UNC REX. Patients will be asked:

  • Have they have traveled internationally in the last 15 days
  • Have they had “close contact” with a person who was confirmed to have or suspected to have  COVID-19 in the last 15 days
  • Have they been tested for COVID-19 tested and are waiting for results

Patients will also be asked if they are experiencing a fever of 100 degrees or higher, any coughing or shortness of breath. This information will help us determine if imaging can safely be performed at our outpatient facilities.

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Our imaging equipment is sanitized between every patient. This includes exam tables, ultrasound tools and imaging stations used by our staff. All team members are also taking extra care to disinfect common surfaces like door handles and bathroom areas with professional-grade cleaning solutions throughout the day. Our offices are professionally cleaned each night and all linens, including cloth gowns, are professionally cleaned off-site.

Patient Protections

Everyone on our team is engaged in frequent hand washing. Both patients and staff members have access to masks and hand sanitizer and many members of our team are also wearing disposable gloves when directly engaging with patients

Staff Health and Safety

All of our radiologists, technologists and staff are continuing to exercise good individual judgement. This is a challenging time for all of us. If any of our own team members are not well or experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, they are not permitted to report to work. We know that proactive, preventive measures will help reduce the impact of this threat and support the greater health of our patients and each other.

ACR and FDA Accreditations

All WakeRad UNC REX outpatient imaging offices are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Our mammography offices are both certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and accredited by the ACR. The quality of our images, as well as the protocols we follow for calibration, cleanliness and safety, allows us to earn and maintain this exceptional standard of care.

Information Updates

WakeRad UNC REX is the preferred medical imaging partner for UNC REX Health. This relationship gives us direct access to information and policies that could help adjust our own protocols to keep patients and our team healthy. We are in touch with UNC Health healthcare professionals to ensure we’re all taking appropriate prevention measures.
