Wake Radiology Breast Centers Named as Top Programs by the
American College of Radiology
RALEIGH (November 20, 2008) – Wake Radiology is pleased to announce that three of its breast imaging centers have achieved the highest designation by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Each of the three centers – Wake Radiology North Hills, Wake Radiology Chapel Hill and Wake Radiology Comprehensive Breast Services in Cary – has been named as a Center of Excellence by the professional organization.
The ACR recognizes centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to their mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

American College of Radiology Center of Excellence breast imaging programs are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that the Wake Radiology breast imaging centers have achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
Wake Radiology offers digital screening and diagnostic mammography with computer aided detection (CAD) software, ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy, galactography and breast ultrasound at these three centers. Wake Radiology Comprehensive Breast Services in Cary also offers the area’s only Breast Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI), a nuclear medicine study that differentiates between normal and cancerous cells. Radiologists who interpret all of these exams are board certified and have expertise in women’s imaging.
