SMITHFIELD, NC – July 14, 2014 – Wake Radiology announced that it has opened a new outpatient imaging office in Smithfield that will offer screening mammograms.
Wake Radiology, a leader in mammography and medical imaging, has deep ties to Smithfield. It served the Smithfield community for 25 years while running the radiology department at Johnston Memorial Hospital until 2010.
“Wake Radiology has a long history in Smithfield and we’re excited to continue serving this community,” said Dr. Lyndon K. Jordan III, Wake Radiology’s president and managing partner and a Smithfield native. “We know that the best protection against breast cancer is early detection, and we want to make it as convenient as possible for women to have a mammogram.”
The office, located behind the Carolina Premium Outlets at 218 Venture Drive, will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
One in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer and mammograms are considered the best way to detect breast cancer early when it is most treatable. The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms for women starting at age 40.
A mammography appointment only lasts 30 minutes from check-in to exam completion. To schedule a screening mammogram at Wake Radiology’s Smithfield office, call (919) 232-4700 or visit www.wakerad.com.

Its physicians have been trained as experts in specific areas – ranging from breast cancer or pediatrics to sports or neuroradiology (brain and spine) – to better detect issues that others might miss. Another hallmark of Wake Radiology is its commitment to low-dose imaging and the elimination of unnecessary or duplicate exams. This approach improves patient outcomes and reduces the overall cost of healthcare.
Wake Radiology is the region’s largest outpatient imaging practice with 50 radiologists who perform nearly 600,000 procedures each year. It has 20 outpatient locations and provides imaging services at several area hospitals, including WakeMed Health and Hospitals, Maria Parham Medical Center and Franklin Medical Center. It is the first outpatient imaging provider in the Triangle to earn the American College of Radiology’s prestigious Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation.
