Wake Radiology Opens Women’s Imaging Center in Morrisville

New location offers walk-in mammograms and extended hours for women working and living in Western Wake County

RALEIGH, NC (December 21, 2011) – Wake Radiology, the region’s largest multi-site radiology group in central North Carolina, announces the opening of Wake Radiology Women’s Imaging Center in Morrisville. The office is the group’s first Morrisville location and focuses on digital screening mammography and bone density screening.

The center features walk-in appointments and extended hours to accommodate early morning and evening exams. Located in the Grace Park community, the office is a central location for women who travel to Research Triangle Park (RTP) or live in the western part of the county, giving them easy access important screening exams. Location and office hours are:

  • 1101 Grace Park Drive, Morrisville, NC 27560
  • Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • Thursday from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

The Morrisville center has earned the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This designation is awarded to imaging centers that have achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

The Morrisville office is also an International Society of Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) accredited facility. Certification is awarded to imaging centers specializing in skeletal assessment that provide the highest level of testing and adhere to the standards determined by the multidisciplinary international society of radiologists, obstetricians, gynecologists and endocrinologists. All exams are performed by experienced American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certified radiologic technologists with additional specialty certification by the ISCD. Bone density tests are interpreted by subspecialty trained musculoskeletal radiologists who are also certified by ISCD.

The new Morrisville imaging center joins the other Wake Radiology offices that have earned the industry’s premier accreditations. All seven Wake Radiology women’s imaging offices in Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Garner and Morrisville are BICOE-designated centers. Together they are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Wake Radiology also has one of the largest and most advanced DXA (dual energy X-ray absorptionmetry) programs in the Southeast, offering testing at eight sites in the Triangle.

Screening mammograms at the Morrisville location are available without an appointment during office hours; however appointments can be made in advance by calling 1-919-232-4700. While women do not have to have a physician referral for this yearly exam, they must have visited their primary care physician within the last 24 months.
