Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update

Your Safety Remains Our Priority

With COVID-19 now part of our daily routine, our concentrated focus on cleaning and safety precautions ensure our patients and staff remain healthy. We continue to carefully monitor COVID-19 in our community and follow guidelines from the CDC, the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), UNC Health, and the American College of Radiology. If you have any questions about how to prepare for your radiology exam please call our Scheduling Team at 919-232-4700.

Attention Mammogram Patients:
What to know about the COVID-19 vaccine and your screening mammogram.

To best support your overall health, our practice is following recommendations from the Society of Breast Imaging about COVID vaccines and screening mammograms. Read more about COVID vaccines and screening mammograms.

The SBI’s advises that when possible, and if it doesn’t unduly delay care, consider scheduling your screening mammogram either before you first dose or four-six weeks after the second dose of your COVID-19 vaccination. The COVID-19 vaccine can cause temporary swelling or enlargement of lymph nodes near the breast and under the arm pit. If this doesn’t go away after the vaccine, patients should contact their primary care doctor.

The SBI’s recommendation only applies to screening mammograms, not diagnostic exams. If you have a question about your screening mammogram or need to adjust your appointment, please contact our Scheduling Team at 919-232-4700.

We’re Prepared

Every day, we work diligently to maintain clean, safe imaging offices for both our patients and staff. We routinely care for sick patients and those with fragile immune systems. Our team is accustomed to working in an environment hyperaware of professional hygiene and disease prevention. That’s remained true as we’ve provided essential imaging to patients and providers during this pandemic.

Our Safety Measures

  • All patients must wear a mask to their appointment. Our team is required to wear them, too.
  • Patients must preregister for all imaging appointments. Instructions come via email from our Scheduling Team or online Patient Portal. Preregistering reduces time spent in our waiting areas.
  • We will pre-screen all patients for COVID-19 symptoms and risk factors before they enter our offices.
  • Our waiting areas have been re-arranged to encourage physical distancing.
  • We sanitize all registration iPads and imaging equipment between each patient. Common surfaces like door handles and bathrooms are disinfected throughout the day and our offices are deep cleaned every night. All of our cloth gowns and linens are professionally cleaned off-site.
  • We schedule more time between appointments to reduce the number of patients in our offices at one time. All visitors must wait for patients outside the building or in their vehicle.
  • All of our outpatient imaging offices are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Our mammography offices are both certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and accredited by the ACR. The quality of our images, as well as the protocols we follow for calibration, cleanliness and safety, allows us to earn and maintain this exceptional standard of care.

Evaluate Your Risk

We remind all patients not to come to their appointment if they don’t feel well.

If you are scheduled for an exam and are experiencing fever of 100 degrees or higher, any coughing or shortness of breath or develop any of these symptoms prior to your appointment, please call our Scheduling Team at 919-232-4700 to reschedule your exam.

WakeRad UNC REX is grateful for the trust our patients and referring providers have placed in us for more than 66 years. We remain committed to providing safe, clean and quality medical imaging to patients throughout the greater Triangle area.
